ABOUT

ME

My name is Richard Bayliss, I am a specialist criminal defence solicitor with 20 years of experience.

If you have to go to the police station or court for a criminal case then I can guide you through every stage of your case.

I specialise in Zoom and telephone advice appointments.

I am available to attend any police station for an arrest or voluntary interview, or court for most criminal cases.

CLEAR LEGAL ADVICE

Richard Bayliss

I have practiced exclusively in criminal defence law for the past 20 years. I have been employed at the largest criminal defence firms in the country and I have represented clients from all walks of life for every type of case imaginable. As a freelance solicitor I can use that experience to help you with your case.

Prior to being a solicitor I worked as an analyst in the City of London. My analytical skills still come in useful, I can work quickly to assess all the evidence and law relating to a case to give clear understandable advice.

As a qualified advisor for the Citizens Advice and a fully accredited police station representative my client care skills are excellent. I genuinely care about all of my clients and deal with each case professionally and compassionately.

As a 1st class honours law degree graduate I like to think I am one step ahead of the opposition. Justice isn't a game but having the right person on your side is essential to getting the right result.

As a fully qualified freelance solicitor I am regulated by the Solicitor Regulation Association (SRA) and the Law Society. As such I am bound by professional codes of conduct and always act in the best interest of my client.

I want the best possible outcome for you, I want you to be able to move on with your life again. I understand how important your case is and will work to bring your case to a close as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Frequently asked questions...

FAQs

How is advice provided?

I can provide advice in person or by Zoom or telephone at a time to suit you. It is not always efficient or cost effective to have physical face to face meetings when technology allows for remote communication. Naturally for police station arrests, voluntary interviews, caution plus 3 interviews and court appearances either on charge or summons, I will attend to advise and represent you in person.

I'm not ready to book an appointment, do you offer free consultations?

Yes, contact me or email me at richard@defencesolicitor.net to see how I can help. I will not charge you for any initial contact, I want to understand your issues before explaining how I can help.

Please note, I will not be able to offer free legal advice, to do so without full information could be negligent, but I will advise you of how I can best help you achieve your goals with my services.

Do you use advisors, paralegals, police station representatives or trainee solicitors?

No, you will be advised and represented by me. I do not employ trainees, paralegals, police station representatives or general advisors.

Will the same solicitor deal with my case throughout?

Yes, I will deal with your case throughout.

Do you deal with other areas of law?

I specialise in criminal defence and motoring law only.

Can you offer legal aid services?

No, I only offer privately funded legal services.

Are you independent of the police, the crown prosecution service and any other agency?

Yes, I am an independent freelance solicitor regulated by the SRA and the Law Society. I work directly for you and no information is disclosed to anyone else without your permission. I will not act for anyone where there is a conflict of interests.

Can you work on a no win no fee basis?

No, no win no fee arrangements are usually found in areas of law where there is significant compensation available. Compensation is not a significant factor in criminal defence cases.

I already have a solicitor, can I transfer my case to you?

Yes, you can transfer your case at any stage, contact me to discuss.

Can we meet face to face to discuss my case?

Yes, we can, subject to agreeing a fee based on travel. I am based in Hertfordshire.

How can I keep control of my legal costs?

I only offer fixed fee services to ensure you stay in control of legal costs. All costs are agreed before undertaking any work. Some costs are ancillary to my legal fees, often these are costs for forensic experts and barristers, in each case where such costs are likely to be incurred I will agree the costs with you in advance.

What payments do you you accept?

I accept payments via credit or debit card and bank transfer.

How can I send documents to you?
